This week's Futurama was just so powerful to me. Like many, I've been worried about the shift in quality and approach of the new Comedy Central season, but this episode was right up there with the classics, mostly thanks to that ending which has already heavily impacted the fans.

I've been in a VERY dark and sometimes even Pissy mood for about a Month and a half now. My mind has been ranging from the Dark Sensuality of Candyman, to Hellraiser and the downright deepest, most disturbing regions of honest humanity. And barely over 24 hours ago, the ending of this episode made me feel so warm and sweet because of it's emotional delivery.

Not to mention the fact that Baby Bender was just so cute and sweet and actually innocent-looking! And it's so strange knowing that at the end of the assembly line, he's going to be that evil, metal man, but for these moments it was so touching to see him in such a purely innocent and vulnerable state, and that he was just a moment away from being scrapped and essentially killed for being defective. And that he was going to be killed for a defect regarding the lack of ability to back up his data and be immortal. "It's not Ironic, just coincidental!"

I know I'm really thinking heavily into this final scene of the episode, but that's what made it so damn good! It shows that the series can still have that deep, emotional impact. This ending was right up there with Leela's Homeworld and Luck of the Fryrish and of course, Jurassic Bark. In fact, this is a good contrast to the infamously heart-breaking Jurassic Bark episode because Baby Bender was so sweet and Happy.

It's just so good (and yet tragic) when a cartoon can really pull at our heart-strings, especially when the show is normally a comedy. But these moments just come out of nowhere and take us by surprise.

I just felt an overwhelming compulsion to draw this after I saw that episode. And I think people have been looking for it too. The song "Little Bird" that played in the episode has even been sought after by fans who saw the episode.

And here it is: [link]

Just look at how many posts there are from Futurama fans. And that also shows how powerful this series can be: It hits the fans so deeply, that they fall in love with a children's folk song because of the emotional impact (and d'awww, I just realized the connection of this song and the fact Bender always wanted to be a folk singer!)

Damn, I love this show.
